Lorraine viewers fuming as travel expert back after exposing quarantine loophole

Travel expert Simon Calder was back on ITV on Lorraine on Wednesday morning, speaking to guest host Christine Lampard all about current restrictions when it comes to going abroad.

However after he exposed ways to get out of the new two-week quarantine rule for people travelling to the UK from Spain, viewers weren’t happy to see him.

When he revealed the loophole on This Morning, even host Ruth Langsford told viewers to ignore him and instead follow the official government guidelines.

And it’s safe to say Lorraine viewers were feeling less inclined to listen to what he had to say on Wednesday morning.

Taking to Twitter, one said: “Wonder did Calder get a right royal b******ing after yesterday? Seems he’s less keen to advise people to travel.”

Another wrote: “Why is Simon Calder on Lorraine on ITV again? His advice is shocking. Anyone who has gone on holiday is selfish and has to deal with the risks that brings. Foolish idiotic and selfish individuals.”

A third tweeted: “Simon Calder on tele again. Give us a break. The other day he was advising people how to avoid the quarantine rules on This Morning. The guy is a joke.”

Someone else added: “Calder talks b******s. Ruth had to shut him down yesterday because the advice he gave was dangerous. The man’s a fool.”

And a fifth added: “Can’t believe they’re still letting Calder spout his nonsense.”

On Monday, Simon told This Morning viewers that if they wanted to avoid quarantine rules, they should simply leave the UK again during the two weeks.

He said: “The only way to reduce two weeks of quarantine you have to serve when returning here is to, believe it or not, leave the country again. To go to France, to Italy, or to anywhere else you like.”

But host Ruth was confused, even asking if she was “being stupid” when she asked if he meant people could come back to the UK and leave again before the fortnight quarantine was over.

Simon added: “They can, if they want to, leave their homes, catch the train to the airport and get on a flight to somewhere else.”

But Ruth told viewers to ignore his suggestions and instead follow the government’s official advice – self-isolate for two weeks.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
