Louise Pentland's 97-year-old granddad returns home after beating Covid-19

Louise Pentland has opened up about her 97-year-old grandad returning home following a 10-day stint in hospital fighting coronavirus.

The YouTube phenomenon and UN Ambassador, 35, took to her Instagram page to share the news that John Pentland had finally reunited with his wife of 73-years, Peggy at their Northampton home.

John had previously survived World War II, serving as a precision engineer working on bunkers within the London Underground system, he has also beaten cancer and a stroke.

His 10-day stay in Northampton General Hospital is the longest he had spent away from Peggy since they married in 1947.

Speaking to Daily Star Online, Louise said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Grandad has beaten Covid-19 and has been reunited with the love of his life, Grandma Peggy.

“He’s a toughie! He’s survived a world war, cancer, a stroke and now Coronavirus.”

The mum-of-two went on to say: “I’m so proud to have such amazing grandparents and when it’s safe to do so, I can’t wait to go round and tell him how amazing he is!

“I am so grateful to the NHS, Northampton General Hospital and Wardington Court Retirement Living for the wonderful care they have given him. Hurrah for Grandad Pentland!”

Announcing the news to her 2.4 million Instagram followers, Louise also revealed that her family believes Peggy had also contracted the virus but hadn’t needed hospital treatment.

Her post which has gained over 117,000 likes was instantly inundated with support from celebrity pals and fans.

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha commented: “Oh my goodness!!! Really??? This is incredible Louise!!! Awwww that’s really cheered me. Sending love.”

One fan added: “What an incredible man!! He truly is a fighter! Much love to you all, look after yourselves and each other.”

While a second penned: “How amazing is this! I’m so happy I read this today.”

Louise, who boasts over 3 million YouTube subscribers went revealed that both John and Peggy “thought that would be the end and said their goodbyes to each other.

“He went to [the] hospital and 10 days later came out. He’d beaten it.

“It breaks me a bit that grandma thought she’d said goodbye to him and then she came back to him.”

Louise recently announced that she had become engaged to partner Liam O’Neill who she shares her youngest daughter, Pearl, 2, with.

Liam popped the question during a trip to Disney World.
