Love Island 2021 to be 'bumper series' as comeback confirmed after 2020 break

Love Island 2021 is set to be a ‘bumper series’ as the sexy singletons descend upon the villa next year.

ITV bosses have finally confirmed that Love Island will return next summer and have vowed to make up for this year’s cancelled series.

It comes after the hit romance reality show was put on hold this summer due to coronavirus concerns.

Love Island joined a long list of television shows that were forced to postpone filming because of the pandemic.

In place of Love Island 2020, ITV bosses decided to air a season of Love Island: Australia, which proved to be very successful as viewers tuned in during the lockdown.

An ITV spokesperson has since announced the good news and also revealed that there would be three Love Island spin-offs coming up.

“It was unfortunate we couldn’t bring you Love Island this summer, but Love Island Australia performed very well for us, reaching over a million viewers for the final,” the rep said.

“With a huge appetite for the show we’ve made three Love Island specials where we catch up with some of the best known former islanders from the past six years.

The added: “We’re also already planning a bumper series of Love Island for next summer.”

Although no details have been revealed so far about the upcoming season, it has been rumoured that there could be a longer series and more contestants.

As lockdown measures began to ease across the country, a number of popular television productions have looked into innovative ways to adhere with self-distancing guidelines.

Britain’s Got Talent is expected to return later this year without an audience.

BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing is also expected to make a comeback this year but with a shorter series and self-isolation among the performers.
