Love Island's Sophie Gradon's mum takes to Twitter after Caroline Flack's death

Tragic Love Island star Sophie Gradon’s mum has taken to her Twitter page to slam the inquiry that took place to review the match maker show after Caroline Flack’s tragic death.

Caroline, 40, was the host of the iconic love finder show and the third person associated with the reality TV show to take their own life.

Deborah Gradon blasted that the “landmine” suicides in relation to the ITV show were not “concluded” in her view and the issues had just been “swept under the carpet” instead.

The mum of the former Love Island star warned social media spectators that “precious lives are at risk”.

Taking to the digital platform she Tweeted: “Inquiry into ITV’s duty of care to participants.

“The DCMS Committee’s decision to launch the inquiry into reality TV comes after the death of a guest on the Jeremy Kyle Show and the deaths of two former contestants in the reality dating show Love Island. Now concluded.

“The inquiry has not been concluded but swept under the carpet. Not so much a lump but a landmine.

“Truth, respect and honesty are not a lot to ask for when precious lives are at risk. It’s our right.”

In June 2018, Deborah’s daughter Sophie devastatingly took her own life after battling with depression and anxiety, following her stint in the villa aged 32.

Mike Thalassitis, 26, featured on the third series of Love Island and suffered with demons following his time on the show. His body was found in a park last March after he took his own life.

After the deaths of Mike and Sophie, an inquiry was raised with The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee to investigate the duty of care to contestants of the show.

Following the news that shook the nation this weekend, Deborah has urged for the MPs to revisit further inspection on the case that had previously been deemed to be “concluded”.

Sophie had previously spoke out in an interview describing her ordeal with internet trolls.

The former Miss Great Britain commented at the time: “I think when you get so many comments on the scale we did coming out with thousands of followers.

“There are fans and positive comments but people would focus on the negatives and sometimes I would look for it.

“There would be so many negative comments about the way you look and the way you talk.

“They would come up with an opinion of you on a TV show where they’ve watched you for 45 minutes and you’ve probably only been on 10 minutes”

Caroline Flack was pronounced dead at her home on Saturday in Stoke Newington, north east London.

Just hours before Caroline’s death, the CPS had confirmed that the assault case against the ITV presenter would go ahead.

Back in December, Caroline decided to step down from her role on the winter edition of Love Island after she was alleged to have assaulted boyfriend Lewis Burton, 27, at her North London home.
