Maya Jama posts emotional tribute to Black the Ripper following his tragic death

Maya Jama has posted an emotional tribute to friend Black the Ripper after the rapper sadly passed away, aged 32.

The Radio One host, who is the ex of rapper Stormzy uploaded throwback snaps of her alongside the late star, real name Dean West.

She wrote: “So, so sad. He was such a lovely soul, paying for his family…

“This year has been scary, stay safe.”

The snaps featured the duo celebrating his birthday with a pal in December 2012, while another saw them having fun in the studio.

The musician shot to fame in the early noughties with his mixtapes including Holla Black and Afro Samurai.

Currently, his cause of death is unknown.

As well as his music career, the star was a prominent advocate for the legalisation of cannabis in the UK.

Several musicians took to Twitter to share their condolences as the news broke on Monday evening.

Rapper Chip took to Instagram to confirm the news of his friend’s passing, and shared a snap of the pair together alongside the caption: “Real tears. I never cry. Rest in peace, my bro. Forever here for your son.”

Skepta posted an image of him and West together, and wrote: “God bless your soul.”

Krept of duo Krept & Konan penned: “No way black the ripper. R.I.P man f***ing hell what a horrible year.”

And YouTuber Craig Mitch said: “I’m hurt. Honestly. This man was a free thinker. A leader not a follower. RIP brother. I will hold our convo’s close to me forever g. RIP Black The Ripper.”
