Michael Jackson's 'real voice' exposed as close pals describe secret accent

Michael Jackson spoke with a soft, high-pitched voice but reports have emerged claiming that the pop star sounded very different in real life.

Those close to the Thriller hitmaker – who would have turned 62 today – had previously said that his famous voice was simply an act.

Recalling phone conversations with the pop icon, Jackson’s close friends David Guest and Liza Minnelli let slip that the star had a secret second voice.

Former Celebrity Big Brother housemate David, who died in 2016, told US chat show host Larry King in 2012: “I think people don’t know the real him. He doesn’t talk like that.”

Liza believed his high-pitched tone was real and said she was shocked when she picked up the phone and heard the singer talking to her former husband David in his real voice.

She recalled: “I said, ‘Michael, you’re busted. I got you now. All these years you’ve been talking that voice’.”

David and Liza believed father-of-three Jackson crafted a public persona to protect his inner self after years of “hurt”.

US actress Liza explained: “This is who you think I am. And I can be me within these walls. But you can’t come in.

“He’s been hurt too much, Larry. I mean, things have said kind of rotten things about him.

“The person that we know is a rather regular guy, believe it or not.”

Court TV’s Diane Dimond said back in 2005 that Jackson actually had a “big, deep sound”.

She told Access Hollywood: “Somewhere in there, especially if you bring him bad news or if you make him mad, his voice gets very, very deep.

“I was there one day when someone asked him about Gloria Allred, the attorney that has sort of dogged him and turned around in one fell swoop and said ‘She can go to hell’ in this big, deep, masculine voice.”

Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan also revealed previously that the star accidentally revealed his secret voice during a telephone interview.

The outspoken former newspaper editor said: “The weirdest thing about Michael Jackson, which encouraged my suspicions about him as a human being, was that when he talked about charity and children he had this very soft, high-pitched voice.

“When I changed the subject to business his voice dropped several octaves and he became a completely different person to talk to.

“That was weird to me, that showed me that he was a different multi-faceted different character depending on the subject matter.”
