Michael Sheen launches fundraiser for Storm Dennis victims after horror flooding

Michael Sheen has recently launched a fundraising appeal to help people affected by Storm Dennis in South Wales.

The actor made the announcement via his Twitter page tonight and hopes to raise a substantial amount for various communities across the country.

Michael has decided to act after he witnessed the “heartbreaking” scenes across his home country over the past weeks, claiming he was inspired by seeing people working together in times of need when their homes and communities had been decimated.

Sheen, who once played the role of former Prime Minister, Tony Blair, had set an initial target of £10,000 but in less than an hour, his appeal had raised a whopping £3000.

Sheen revealed his intentions via a Twitter video

Speaking to his 468,000 Twitter followers, Sheen said: “I’m sure you have been watching the images all across the country of people who have had damage done to their homes and businesses, and communities that have been really hard hit by the flooding after Storm Dennis.

“I’ve been watching the images coming out of Wales, particularly in South Wales where my hometown is.”

He went on to say: “I had a family member who had to be evacuated from her home on Sunday morning; it’s devastating.

“The effects of Storm Dennis will go on for months and months and months, years in some cases.

“I wanted to do something about it so I’ve set up a place where you can donate. There are other fundraising sites for places all over the country so don’t stop giving to those, but this is something that will be able to help those who might otherwise fall through the cracks, so please give what you can.”

Sunday saw the biggest impact of Storm Dennis hitting South Wales in areas such as Pontypridd, Aberdulais, Cardiff and Carmarthen.

Residents across Wales have now begun the cleanup operation after the storm left areas flooded and homes ruined.

Michael who grew up in Port Talbot said he is “speaking to people on the ground right now who are working around the clock to support those affected by the flooding.”

He also explained that funds will be held in Wales by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action.

Funds will then be distributed across the country with the worst affected communities taking priority.
