Naya Rivera final TV appearance to be aired on Sugar Rush by Netflix as tribute

Naya Rivera will appear in Netflix ‘s Sugar Rush in what is believed to be her last TV appearance before she tragically passed away earlier this month.

The streaming service announced they will air the season three episode, which sees the late actress guest judge on the baking show alongside Hunter March, Candace Nelson, and Adriano Zumbo.

Sugar Rush will dedicate the episode to the star, and was reportedly the last thing Naya filmed before production was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The show focuses on four teams of bakers who race against the clock as they whip up cakes and other confections with the hope of leaving with the $10,000 (£7,800) grand prize.

Netflix previously announced on June 24 that the new season of Sugar Rush, titled Extra Sweet, would be launching on July 31.

Rivera’s posthumous TV appearance comes days after it was reported the Glee star was laid to rest 11 days after her drowning death was confirmed.

According to a death certificate obtained by CNN, Rivera was buried at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park on July 24.

The 33-year-old drowned on Lake Piru in Ventura County, California, after taking her son out on a rented boat.

Rivera rented the pontoon boat around 1pm, but a few hours later the alarm was raised when someone, who was also on the water, saw the child sleeping on the boat but Rivera was nowhere to be seen.

Her body was recovered from the lake five days later.

The medical examiner determined that she drowned within minutes, according to the death certificate.

“No other significant factors” were listed as having contributed to Rivera’s death.

“She mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat, but not enough to save herself,” Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub said.
