Phillip Schofield's weight plummeted to 9 stone amid scary mental health battle

Phillip Schofield wrote about his drastic weight loss amid his mental health battle in his new tell-all autobiography.

His new book Life’s What You Make It, released today (October 15), told how his weight plummeted to nine stone as he contemplated coming out as gay.

Phil wrote: “My weight dropped, and as it hit 9st 12lbs the This Morning viewers started to notice.

“I was getting tweets from people asking if I was ill.”

This Morning presenter Phil admitted his inner turmoil affected his sleep too, and he got by on just two hours a night.

Schofield recalled: “It’s like being inside the blackest cloud and being consumed by crushing, desperate sadness.

“Nothing and no one can make it better.”

In February this year, Phil came out as gay in an emotional social media post and a moving speech moments after on This Morning.

In his moving online statement, the media personality wrote: “You never know what’s going on in someone’s seemingly perfect life, what issues they are struggling with, or the state of their wellbeing – and so you won’t know what’s been consuming me for the last few years.

“With the strength and support of my wife and daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay.”

During an appearance on The One Show on Wednesday, Phil said that he couldn’t have gone ahead with it if it wasn’t for his co-star Holly Willoughby.

The dad-of-two explained: “We’d had a big lead up to that moment. When I knew what I had to do, Holly was one of the first people that I told.

“She’s such a wise person, she’s got such a calm, sensitive aura to her. Everyone at home was saying, ‘It’ll be ok, it’ll be ok’, and Holly was saying, ‘It’ll be fine’.”

Phil added: “She was the only one who knew at work at that time. Then we sort of had to figure out how to do something like that.”
