Piers Morgan has been branded a “hypocrite” by fans after he took to Twitter to share a number of holiday snaps.
The Good Morning Britain host, who has been an advocate for adhering to coronavirus lockdown rules and shaming those who chose bend the rules, has now come under fire on social media.
Sharing a picture of his incredible French villa in Provence, the 55-year-old seemed to be kicked back and relaxed as he rested from his ITV job for the summer.
According to the Government’s website, there is no restriction on travel to France from the UK and travellers are no longer required to self-isolate on arrival.
But for some fans, just the fact he’d chose to travel after being so vocal on the matter, seemed to leave a bad taste.
One annoyed fan wrote: “Piers you have let the side down here. Why choose to go abroad when you have been preaching others not to go.
“I know it’s hard, but if your audience members are peaking cause your slating the government you should be leading a better example on social media. Double standards here.”
A second tweeted: “What a hypocrite lecturing everyone else on social distancing and crowding and the virus numbers and getting on a plane…”
“Dr Hilary said don’t fly. Why do you preach on TV then do the opposite”, fumed another.
While a fourth agreed: “So true. On TV every day spreading negativity. Then picking up his big cheque every week.”
However, the debate seemed to divide his 7.6 million followers, with others running to his defence to blast haters.
One chimed: “Hang on a minute. We can all travel over to France. An apartment, hotel of villa is in reach of most peoples budget right now.
A second added: “Enjoy Piers, well deserved.”
He later shared a picture from his French holiday home, proving that he is still social distancing.
Sharing the snap at London Heathrow, while on a plane and wearing a face-mask, he penned: “I’m a washed-up, knackered pathetic excuse for a celebrity… get me outta here.
“Bye Britain, it’s been… surreal.”
