Piers Morgan was seen defending J.K. Rowling today – saying he doesn’t think she’s transphobic.
The Harry Potter author has faced intense backlash earlier this month with a series of tweets many claimed were ‘anti-trans’.
This included the 54-year-old saying: “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased.”
However, in an open letter published on June 10, JK Rowling wrote that she was partly motivated to speak out about female trauma because of her own experiences of abuse and sexual assault.
Piers defended the star on Good Morning Britain while chatting with Labour leader Kier Starmer today.

He said: “Whether you agree with her or not, she’s been destroyed in the court of public opinion and social media, including by some of your own front bench, who have now had to apologise.
“Many people who agree with JK Rowling say ‘What has she said that is actually so offensive.’
“She’s trying to defend women’s rights. She’s not transphobic, from anything that I’ve read.

“She says she supports transgender people, she supports their rights to fairness and equality.”
Going on to speak about trans rights with Starmer, Piers added: “Let me give you one example, where it seems to me inarguably unequal and unfair this whole debate.
“Is it right that people born to male biological bodies should be able to compete in sports against people born to female biological bodies, given there is clearly in almost every case a massive physical advantage and therefore a massive disadvantage to the women competing who are born to female biological bodies?”

Starmer replied: “Piers we need to have a debate about that, there is a sensitive issue here about the trans community and self-identity.
“I think we can go forward on this if we have a sensible debate about it without just drawing hard lines in the sand on both sides.
“We need mature reflection on it.
“They’re practical issues, they’re good questions, let’s reflect on them and find a census because just chucking mud at one another is not going to help.”
Starmer also said he thought it was right for Labour frontbencher Lloyd Russell-Moyle to apologise to JK Rowling for accusing Harry Potter author of exploiting her sexual assault ordeal to score political points in the transgender row.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
