With the birth of the internet, the porn industry dramatically shifted from DVDs in seedy shops to an array of people worldwide dipping their toes into the realms of adult movies.
Yet, although the world of adult movies has shape-shifted into a booming web of content at the click of a button, what still lingers in the air is a stigma surrounding the pornstar profession.
These days, it’s common for people to change their careers throughout their lifetimes and it is apparent that the same applies for workers in the porn industry.
Here, we take a look at some of the women that have quit their adult film careers and dramatically braved criticism whilst striving for a different career path.
Mia Khalifa
At just 27-years-old, Mia had gained worldwide recognition after working as an adult film star whilst wearing a hijab.
The Lebanese-born actress was ranked as the most viewed pornstar on several websites some years ago including PornHub, but dramatically quit the industry after being criticised for her content.
Mia, who was raised as a Christian, faced death threats from ISIS and other Islamist extremists after the video was seen by millions around the world.

She has also admitted that she earned just $12,000 in total for her work in the industry, contrary to suggestions that she had made millions for her work.
Since then, Mia has actually become a sports commentator but admitted that she had found it difficult to find a ‘normal’ job after leaving the industry.
Sharing a clip on Twitter, she added: “Difficulty finding a normal job after quitting porn was… scary.”

Eva Angelina
Award-winning American porn actress Eva, 34, was just 18 years old when she stepped into the adult video world.
Last year, the actress decided to ditch her job for an unusual career change.

After gruelling training, the Californian beauty graduated from Firefighting Academy
The Californian beauty graduated in Class No. 57 at the St. Petersburg College Firefighting Academy and proudly posed with her squad – of which she was squad leader – in photos she posted on her Instagram page.
Now going by her real name Nicole Tyler, the brunette beamed as she posed for pictures after qualifying to fight fires with the St. Petersburg Fire Department in Florida.

Brittni De La Mora
Brittni worked in the porn industry for seven years and was estimated to be earning a whopping $30,000 a month at the height of her adult career.
The California-native, who was once considered one of the most successful pornstars in the industry, threw in the towel and dramatically changed her lifestyle to become a church minister.
The ex-porn star wed her pastor husband in 2016 and now they both oversee a church called the XXX Church, in which she preaches the dangers of pornography.
In an interview with cbn news, the former actress hoped to use her platform to preach on a life of chastity.
“But with God all things are possible. And so, what you need to do if you want to walk in purity – if this is the desire of your heart – you want to honour God with your body. You need accountability and you need to just set clear, basic boundaries,” she said.

Tiffany Million
Tiffany found fame in the late 1980s as a member of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW) before entering into the porn industry.
She featured in over 100 erotic movies within the space of two years and even launched her own film production company, which produced movies with a feminist slant.
Now using her real name, Sandra Margot since ditched the porn industry for a life of bounty hunting.
According to Business Insider, she is happily married and is a licensed private investigator.

Mary Carey
Mary shot for fame for starring in a series of steamy X-rated videos but her work in erotica came to an end in 2007 when she decided to look for new opportunities.
Mary announced the news that she was turning to boxing with an Instagram post earlier this year.
It read: “I signed my deal with @celebrityboxing1!!!! Story is on TMZ now!”

Her fans offered support for her new venture, with one commenting: “I can’t wait to watch you in action.”
The former pornstar is picking up her boxing gloves and will be stepping into the ring in April for her boxing debut in a Miami strip-club.
