Rebekah Vardy opens up on sexual abuse which left her suicidal and homeless

Rebekah Vardy has revealed in a heartbreaking post how she was abused, attempted suicide and was once homeless.

The wife of £80,000-a-week Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy opened up about her troubled past as she urged locked down youngsters in crisis to seek help to prevent their childhoods being snatched away.

Rebekah, 38, who now lives in a £1.5million farmhouse, said she was happy her own daughter Megan – who has just turned 15 – was still a child.

Sharing pictures of herself and Megan on Instagram the mum-of-five wrote: “CSA Trigger Warning.

“Lockdown will be a terrible time for some children and young people.”

She continued: “Yesterday my daughter turned 15 and I’m so happy that she is still a child.

“This may sound strange to some people but I know that it will resonate with others who didn’t get to be children for long enough.

“By the time I was 15 I wasn’t a child anymore and the year that I turned 15 was the year that my life really started to spiral out of control.”

Rebekah continued by telling fans that from the age of 12 she had been being sexually abused in her own home by someone she said she had trusted.

Rebekah said she is glad she can give her daughter Megan a different life to she had

She continued: “I had already taken an overdose of pills and vodka in an attempt to end the awful feelings of shame, fear and anger that I couldn’t find another way to escape from.

“I already hated myself. Just a few months later I was made homeless and ended up sleeping on sofas and collecting glasses in a pub to make enough money to allow me to rent a room in a B&B to live in.

“I was 15 and should still have been a child. Seeing Megs turn 15 and knowing that she is fortunate enough to feel safe, loved and content makes me feel very happy and extremely lucky.”

Rebekah first revealed she had been abused in 2016 when she said she had been sexually assaulted by a family friend almost once-a-week over three years.

It triggered a rift with her mum Alison who had not believed her and as a result did not attend her wedding to Jamie, 33.

In 2017 Rebekah told TV’s Loose Women: “In my early teens I experienced numerous unpleasant incidents.

“It was someone pretty close to my family. I had conversations with numerous members of my family about it. I got persuaded not to take it any further.

“I made quite a few bad mistakes when I was growing up which I now link back to that. I was a troubled child.

“I didn’t know what direction to take. But it’s really important that I came through it.”
