The Writing’s On The Wall singer says they believe they’ve had coronavirus. Sam Smith said that while they haven’t been tested, they have displayed the common symptoms of Covid-19.
“I know I have it, 100 per cent have it,” the 27-year-old said, after Zane Lowe asked the musician about the illness and lockdown, which Sam has been posting about on social media.
Sam replied: “I’m just going to assume that I did because everything I’ve read completely pointed to that.
“So yeah, I think I definitely had it. And then as soon as I had it, my sister five days after me started getting the same symptoms who’s living with me.”
As a result of the symptoms, Sam quarantined with their sister for three weeks.
“It was clear because I’ve got an older nan and stuff, so we didn’t want to risk anything.
“This was about two weeks before the UK was really hit.
“I think I got it, I don’t 100 per cent know, but I got it and then as everyone was kind of really on lockdown, that’s when I got over it, luckily.”
Sam has been doing the rounds interview-wise, as they promote their new single I’m ready, featuring Demi Lovato.
They also also appeared on Scott Mills’ BBC Radio 1 show today, and Scott was feeling nostalgic, as he spoke to Sam about the first time they were in the top five, which was back in May 26, 2013.
Sam’s first smash was La La La with Rudimental and Naughty Boy, which sat alongside Passenger’s Let It Go in the charts.
Scott asked Sam if it felt like a lifetime ago.

Sam replied: “I just remember being up at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and I was watching Passenger at the side of the stage, and it was such a wonderful feeling.
“[Listening to Passenger] has transported me.”
Scott asked Sam what their plans were for the rest of the day.
Sam responded: “I’m going to make some chicken wings and then I’m going to watch The Talented Mr Ripley.”
Sounds dreamy!
