Seeing dead people to musical dreams – What came next for the Round the Twist cast

Australian show Round the Twist was loved and adored by adults and kids alike, with most of us still remembering the catchy theme tune even now.

During the 1990s we couldn’t get enough of the Aussie flicks, with Neighbours, Home and Away and, of course, Round the Twist dominating TV screens.

Its iconic theme tune captured attention and stole the hearts of all – “Have you ever, ever felt like this? How strange things happen, are you going round the twist?”

Each fantasy episode showcased the Twist family, a widowed father and his three children who lived in a peculiar lighthouse, often involved in surreal and eccentric antics.

But what ever happened to the stars of the show, and where are they now?

Richard Moir – Tony Twist

Who could forget Richard Moir, the single father of the lovable brood, sporting long and uncontrollable curls and wondering if he would ever find love?

Although Tony was bringing up three children on his own, viewers couldn’t help but want him to find love on the show and then, as if by magic, along came Bronson’s teacher and, just like that, he and Fay James were engaged.

Character Tony was played by Richard Moir who had to end his acting career suddenly in 1990 after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

In 2006, he starred in the documentary film The Bridge At Midnight Trembles, where he discussed his illness and explained that he underwent deep brain stimulation therapy.

Jeffrey Walker – Bronson Twist (season two)

Jeffrey Walker was better known as Bronson Twist on the quirky show and went on to have the most successful career of the Twist clan.

After his short stint on Round the Twist, he went on to star in many other TV shows such as Police Rescue.

In 2003, Jeffrey ditched his acting career to go behind the cameras and direct Neighbours, Dance Academy, Home and Away and Modern Family.

Taking a leap away from TV soap operas and sitcoms, he went on to direct Dance Academy: The Movie in 2017.

Sam Vandenberg – Pete Twist

Pete Twist was the big brother of the Twist family, sharing his role of the eldest sibling alongside twin sister Linda.

Sam Vandenberg played Pete in season one and exited the programme to pursue a career in music, but other than a short stint in 1995, it would seem his dream didn’t quite take off.

His last on-screen appearance was in 1995 during an episode of Blue Heelers and his acting career appears to have ended after that.

Rodney McLennan – Bronson Twist (season one)

The original cheeky younger brother Bronson Twist was played by Rodney McLennan, who was axed from the show after he outgrew the child’s role.

Back in 2016, Rodney told ABC that Bronson had followed him throughout his entire life, despite trying to keep away from the limelight.

He said to the publication: “I don’t regret it at all. I can’t see it as an industry I want to work in. I wanted the stability of a regular type job.”

Since quitting acting, he joined the Australian Army after landing himself in a bad crowd, and then became a triple zero call taker and police dispatcher.

Tamsin West – Linda Twist

The multitalented Tamsin West not only starred in the show as lovable Linda Twist, twin sister to Pete Twist, but also wrote the iconic Round the Twist theme tune.

Linda also stared as Emma Gordon on the hit soap opera Neighbours but later decided to take a new path, sidelining her acting career in 1995.

West performed the lead vocals on the Round the Twist theme song for all four series.

Lachlan Jeffrey – James Gribble

James Gribble was played by Lachlan Jeffrey in season one and was the original school bad boy, who everyone loved to hate.

Lachlan didn’t find his love of acting again for more than 20 years after his short stint on Round the Twist.

However, in 2009 he returned to his roots taking on a role in the horror film The Devil’s Whispers.

The aloof Lachlan then made another disappearing act and hasn’t graced any screens since.

Mark Mitchell – Harold Gribble

Mr Gribble, everyone’s favourite teacher, was played by Mark Mitchell in the later seasons.

Mark went on to land some successful acting roles following his teacher role such as in Neighbours, Blue Heelers and Prisoner.

Taking his career to the big screen he later played the part of Chief Quimby in the 2003 film Inspector Gadget 2.

In more recent years, he made an appearance on Studio 10, claiming that he had a sixth sense and could see dead people.
