Sharon Osbourne recalls Ozzy trying to 'calmly' choke her to death while high

Sharon Osbourne has recalled the shocking moment that her husband Ozzy tried to kill her.

The couple appear in a new US documentary The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne, which examines the Black Sabbath rocker’s life.

In the show they recall the time Ozzy, 71, tried to “calmly” kill Sharon at their Buckinghamshire mansion in 1989 while he was high on drugs.

Sharon, 67, said: “I put the kids to bed, bathed them — we had a nanny living at the house then — and I was sat down reading.

“He came into the room. I had no idea who was sat across from me on the sofa but it wasn’t my husband. He goes to a stage where he gets that look in his eyes, the shutters were down and I just couldn’t get through to him. And he just said, ‘We’ve come to a decision that you’ve got to die’.

“He was calm — very calm — then suddenly he lunged across at me and just dived on me and started to choke me. He got me down on the ground on top of me and I was feeling for stuff on the table. I felt the panic button and I just pressed it and the next thing I know, the cops were there.”

Ozzy, 71, told how he woke up in a police cell and quizzed cops why he had been arrested.

He said: “I felt the calmest I had ever felt in my life. I was just peaceful. It’s not exactly one of my greatest achievements.

“All I remember is waking up in Amersham jail and I asked the cop, ‘Why am I here?’ And he says, ‘You want me to read your charge?’ So he read, ‘John Michael Osbourne, you have been arrested for attempted murder’.”

The family became reality TV stars in the early 2000s when they featured in MTV hit, The Osbournes.

She said: “Thank God the judge put him in treatment for six months. I had time to really think about what he should do. I told him, ‘I don’t want the money but if you do this again, either I am going to kill you or you are going to kill me. And do you want that for the kids?”

Ozzy, who has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, also told on the documentary of his battle with depression since the coronavirus pandemic started.

He said: “When I am in a room on my own, it is a bad f***ing place. Our heads are our worst enemies in times like this because people are locked up and worried about this pandemic.”
