Simon Cowell has been left unable to work following extensive back surgery

Simon Cowell could be out of work for up to six months following major surgery on his back in August.

It’s believed that the Britain’s Got Talent mogul is currently taking high-strength painkillers in order to ease the pain he is suffering as well as requiring a “full-time nurse”.

Simon, 61, had a close call with permanent damage over the summer after falling off a brand new high-powered e-bike close to his Malibu home.

The music manager was rushed to a nearby hospital and underwent extensive surgery after almost snapping his spinal cord.

Now, it’s claimed that Simon is recuperating thanks to intense physiotherapy but has been left “too unwell” to record a video message ahead of tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent finale.

A source close to Cowell says that he is walking around his garden as well as using his swimming pool to exercise, according to The Sun.

The mole went on to say: “Simon’s a fighter and fairly gung-ho.

“Naturally, he thought he’d be out of action for a few weeks and then, if not doing iron man contests, at least be back on the showbiz circuit.”

They added: “Instead, he’s had a setback from surgery to fuse two vertebrae and it has proven more complicated than a standard break.”

It’s said that the SyCo boss is currently on the mend and adjusting to life as a patient while girlfriend Laren Silverman and their son, Eric, are keeping him entertained.

Ahead of tonight’s finale, Simon was gearing up to prepare a pre-recorded video message for finalists but the idea of having no studio makeup team and being dosed up on medication was less appealing to him.

Simon’s close pal Sinitta had previously said that the accident was “serious” which left those close to him worried.

“It was a serious accident. So for people who love him, like me, it was very, very scary.

“He’s taken some steps, so he has reassured himself that he’s not paralysed,” she told Entertainment Daily.

Daily Star Online has approached Simon’s reps for comment.
