Simon Cowell surgery update days after he drops out of Britain's Got Talent

Simon Cowell is said to be pleasing medical experts with his recovery progress after being forced to have emergency surgery to fix his broken back after falling off his new electric bike while at his home.

The X Factor mogul is understood to be taking daily physiotherapy sessions in order to help him get back to full health – but there is still a long way to go.

His girlfriend Lauren Silverman is said to be keen the businessman doesn’t throw himself back into work too quickly and is encouraging him to rest.

A source said: “One of his friends joked that the metal holding him together makes him The Terminator — which amused Simon.

“He won’t mind if that sticks, but the main thing is that he’s on the mend.”

The insider added to The Sun: “The experts are pleased with how things are looking and he’s doing physiotherapy at home every day. It’s looking good.

“Obviously, he’s trying to start work as quickly as possible and is back on the phone to his team but he is still being encouraged by Lauren and his friends to rest up for a while longer — and he knows that he needs to.”

Simon had hoped to return to work in time to film the pre-recorded Britain’s Got Talent finals, however, he has now decided to put his public comeback on ice.

Instead, Diversity star and Dancing on Ice judge Ashley Banjo will replace him and join judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams on the panel.

Speaking about the decision, Simon said: “Ashley will be a fantastic addition to the panel.

“He knows the power of the show and the responsibility of it.

“I couldn’t think of a better person to sit in my seat whilst I follow doctor’s orders. I hate that stupid bike.”

Ashley shot to fame after winning Britain’s Got Talent series three with his dance troupe Diversity back 2009, beating Susan Boyle to the top spot.

Britain’s Got Talent is set to kick off on ITV in the Autumn.
