Sir Billy Connolly wants to return to acting despite his Parkinson’s diagnosis

Sir Billy Connolly wants to return to acting despite his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

The comedy legend announced his retirement from live performances in 2018 after being told he had the disease five years earlier.

He claimed he was even lined up to play a character suffering with the condition but it fell through.

Sir Billy, 77, said: “I don’t have anything in mind, but I’d definitely mull it over if I was asked. I like doing it.

“I went to a thing at Downing Street for a Parkinson’s charity. I met a writer who wanted me to play a guy with Parkinson’s in a film.

“I said: ‘Sure, I’ll do that’. But I think the whole project has fallen though.”

As well as comedy, Sir Billy has starred in several films and telly shows and his last part was in thriller Wild Oats in 2016 alongside Hollywood stars Demi Moore, 57, and Jessica Lange, 70.

Sir Billy, known as the Big Yin, was known for his energetic stage presence during a six-decade career.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s while undergoing surgery for early-stage prostate cancer in 2013.

Earlier that year he reveald he had started forgetting his lines saying: “I had a brilliant time making What We Did On Our Holiday up at Gairloch (in the Scottish Highlands) apart from the midges.

“They were the worst thing I’ve ever experienced.”

What We Did On Our Holiday was the funnyman’s last major role in which he starred with David Tennant, 48, and Rosamund Pike, 41.

Sir Billy is married to second wife Pamela Stephenson, 70, who he shares three children with. He has another two from his first marriage.
