A movie tough guy who fought off Brad Pitt in Snatch has ditched on-screen battering in Hollywood to fry fish in Halifax.
Adam Fogerty, 51, who played Gorgeous George in the 2000 crime comedy, has turned his back on Tinseltown to a open chip shop opposite the house he grew up in Yorkshire.
He credits the shop’s late owner Bob Kemp – who ran it for 52 years – with making him fall in love with chippy teas.
The actor – a former boxer and rugby league star – said he could not pass up the chance to take over the fish empire.
Adam said: “I grew up opposite Bob’s chippy in the Golden Lion pub.
“I fell in love with fish and chips because of him.
“My parents made a deal with Bob that they wouldn’t sell fish and chips if he didn’t sell alcohol. “I’m going back to my roots.

“I’ve had some great life experiences and met some amazing people but Halifax is home.”
Adam, whose once played hitman in Coronation Street, counts some of Hollywood’s biggest names as his friends.
He said: “In my first job as an actor I starred in The Power Of One with Daniel Craig. We hit it off. I remember playing football with him between takes.
“It was great to work with other big actors too.
“In Stardust I met Robert De Niro, who was definitely my favourite actor to work with.
“Brad Pitt was great too and I felt he was such a down-to-earth person. I’ve been very lucky.”
But wherever he travelled during a 30-year career he missed the chip suppers Bob and his wife Rita used to rustle up at his shop in Gibbet Street.
When the fish fryer died of cancer aged 78 – four years after his wife – Adam wanted to preserve their legacy.”
They’re the reason why I want to keep this chippy a traditional one,” he said.

“I want them and their amazing service to be remembered.
“What I’m offering the public is a traditional service.
“No kebabs or burgers, just good old fashioned fish and chips – obviously with pies too.”
