Strictly's Jay McGuinness says 'loads more' drama happens backstage on the show

Jay McGuinness has lifted the lid on Strictly Come Dancing ‘s backstage antics, confessing a lot more drama happens behind-the-scenes.

The singer, who won the dancing competition in 2015, opened up about his time on the show, and revealed there was “high tension” when the cameras rolled.

Discussing the BBC programme, he admitted people became “angry” during filming but a lot of things happened “under the radar”.

“Loads more happens on Strictly than is reported, and nearly everything that is reported is not exactly what happened,” he said.

“I’m not going to give out personal secrets but people have dark days and nine times out of ten, the crew and everyone lets it happen and it goes under the radar,” he told The Sun Online.

However, he was quick to point out the secrets aren’t linked to the well-documented Strictly curse.

“I can see how when I say that a bunch of people will be like: ‘Everyone’s s***ging! Everyone’s f***ing everyone!’

“But really, most of the stuff is when people are really struggling, or when people are really angry and upset and they try to let everyone have their minute.

Jay also explained how celebrities, who would be finding it tough backstage, would paint on a persona when they knew they were being filmed.

“There’s a really high tension situation; we had some real wild characters and then when the camera comes on they pull it together and they’re like: ‘Please vote for us’.

Despite dishing the hot gossip on Strictly’s backstage secrets, the West End star admitted he still tunes in to the show.

Jay added: “I think it’s a brilliant show, I watch it every single year but now I watch it and think: ‘Who knows what’s going on?'”
