The Chase's Bradley Walsh dumbfounded as doctor gets medical question wrong

The Chase returned to our screens on Monday for the latest throwback instalment of the popular ITV quiz show.

Host Bradley Walsh welcomed a team of four contestants to the show this afternoon.

The cheeky presenter was eager to see them get through to the final with some money in-hand.

Paul “The Sinnerman” Sinha was in the hot seat trying to prevent the hopefuls from going home with the cash prize.

Ewan, Peter, Chanelle and Linda all took it in turns to take on the cash builder and later went head-to-head with The Sinnerman in an intense round of general knowledge questions.

Things got off to a tricky start for contestant Euan during the cash builder round after the qualified doctor got a basic medical question wrong.

Bradley asked the Glasgow doctor a question about the pituitary gland, a tiny organ found at the base of the brain, but Euan incorrectly said it would be found in the neck.

Answering with “neck”, a gobsmacked Bradley said: “Euan, back to uni.

“Have you got pals watching this? Oh dear. Get your hearing checked, go and see your doctor.”

The embarrassed contestant admitted that he hoped Dr Paul Sinha, who studied at St George’s Hospital Medical School, would not be today’s chaser.

Host Bradley laughed: “If it’s him, trust me you’re going to get it!,” before it was revealed Paul would indeed be tonight’s quizzer.

“I thought you said thyroid,” protested Euan.

He added: “Definitely. That’s bad. Paul might be able to teach me any more medicine that I need to learn. Uni is over now.”

The Chaser showed empathy to the doctor, adding: “Oh come on Euan. You think I’m going to be horrible to you.

“I’ve made these mistakes before myself in the past. I actually feel for you.

“That’s not medical ignorance, that’s just you being hard of hearing! Hearing, your ears.”

However, ITV viewers were in uproar at the contestant who revealed he would be starting work as a doctor in Liverpool after six years of studying.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: “Nahhhhh and he’s meant to be training to be a doctor?! Lol”

Another added: “Doctor gets medical question wrong. Taxi.”

A third said: “Oh Dear, that is not good doctor.”

While a fourth penned: “Wouldn’t want to be treated by Euan. I might have thyroid problems and he’d be cutting my brain open.”

Euan made it through to the final round safe and dry adding a sound £4,000 to the prize fund.

The Chase air weekdays on ITV at 5pm
