This Morning fans gobsmacked as Eamonn Holmes gets shut down by teenage activist

Eamonn Holmes was shut down by teenage environmental activist Bella Lack on today’s show, as he quizzed her about whether the world was “doomed”.

The 17-year-old joined Eamonn and Ruth Langsford on This Morning to discuss her work in fighting against climate change, appearing via video call.

Eamonn proved no match for Bella’s know-how when he started quizzing the teenager about the fate of the planet.

The Northern Irish presenter expressed his concerns for the world, saying he felt overwhelmed by all of the problems plaguing the environment.

He said: “Bella, I’m a lot older than you, I’m three times older than you, and I’m a bit weary.

“I worry all the time, I worry about the rainforest. I mean only this week we read about more hundreds and thousands of acres being burnt down by property developers. I worry about plastic pollution, I worry about the oceans.

“I’m not very optimistic for the future. I sort of feel we’re in a bad place and we’re not going to get out of it. I sort of feel the planet is doomed. Do you feel the planet is doomed?”

In a clever swipe, Bella replied: “I mean I’m not really a therapist.

“But, we can be overwhelmed by the complexity of the problem, or we can fall in love with the creativity of the solution. I think so many young people are experiencing this new phenomenon of ‘eco-anxiety’.”

Taking to Twitter, viewers were left in stitches over Bella’s intelligent rebuttal, as they praised the environmentalist’s dedication to the cause.

Adding the “laughter” emoji, one wrote: “Omg when @BellaLack told @EamonnHolmes ‘Well, I’m not really a therapist but…’ when he said the planet was doomed.”

A second added: “Bella Lack to Eamon ‘well I am not a therapist’ LOL. I’m dead. #ThisMorning.”

“Absolutely loving @BellaLack on #ThisMorning. A poised and impressive speaker. ‘I just feel like we’re all doomed and there’s no point. What do you say to that?’ ‘Well… I’m not really a therapist’,” added a third.

While a fourth remarked: “Eamon is trying to trip her up but is failing. What an amazing, intelligent, well-spoken young lady #ThisMorning.”

Once the interview wrapped, Ruth made it clear she had been impressed by Bella’s views, as she asked her husband: “Did you speak like that at 17?”

Before adding: “You’ve got to admire the passion, the vision.”

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
