This Morning fans puzzled as mystery 'masked man' takes over Holly and Phil interview

This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were joined by a masked man on today’s show, as they chatted about the royals and the Coronavirus.

The mystery fella wore a khaki balaclava, covering his face completely aside from his eyes.

Refusing to give away his identity, Holly and Phil decided not to introduce him by name – which left viewers searching for answers.

Instead, they subtly referenced the balaclava throughout the interview, especially once the conversation turned to the spread of the Coronavirus.

The unidentified man joked that if he became mayor of London, it would be “mandatory” to wear a similar mask on public transport to prevent further spreading of the virus.

He said: “This will be mandatory on the London underground. You’ll get one when you get your oyster.”

Taking to Twitter, they wondered why the mysterious bloke had covered his face with the ski mask.

One said: “Oh for goodness sake wtf is going on? Can someone explain who this guy is and what is the point of this segment.”

A second added: “Erm…enlighten me folks, who’s the guy in the balaclava, and why is he wearing it?”

Holl and Phillip didn’t refer to the masked man by name

While a third chimed: “WTF am I watching on #ThisMorning ….in a mask ? How scary for any little ones watching with mum or dad.”

And a fourth chimed: “Why is the bloke in a mask? What have I missed?”

The masked gentleman identifies as Drillminister, a London-based rapper who is running for mayor.

The Drillminister announced his plans to run for mayor back in January

Ahead of his appearance on the show today, he took to Twitter to encourage his fans to tune in, saying: “Oiiiii I’m going live on ITV with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield right now lock in guys.”

Drillminister rose to acclaim in 2018 with his politically charged raps, before announcing his plans to enter the race for mayor of London in January.

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
