Good Morning Britain expert Dr Amir Khan says there may be coronavirus vaccines by Christmas.
However, the GMB expert warned that the vaccines may not actually be available to the public so soon.
Chatting about the vaccines on the ITV show today, the doctor said: “There is some good news over the weekend, two big trials… two big companies have suggested that we may have vaccines by Christmas.
“That doesn’t mean you and I will have the vaccines, it just means that they will be made available.
“Pfizer is a big pharmaceutical giant producing thousands already and they hope to produce a 100million vaccines by the end of this year – 60million of which are destined to come to the UK.

“And then by 2021 if they get the approval, they will ramp that up to 1.3billion doses.”
Continuing to talk about the vaccines, he added: “And then the Oxford vaccine that we’ve been hearing about, that’s with another pharmaceutical giant, they’re hoping to get that up and running if they get through the Phase 3 trial by December as well.”
He had a big warning for viewers though, saying: “Having the vaccine doesn’t mean we’re going to get it.
“NHS staff will need to be trained and that’s been promised, but it’s going to be a slow process the vaccination process. Who or when they’ll get it, the details haven’t been disclosed yet.

“It’s good news, but it doesn’t mean we’ll be getting it in December or early next year. We’ll have to wait for the detail on that.”

Meanwhile the death toll, which only includes people who have passed away within 28 days of testing positive for the virus, has reached 43,579.
