You and Crocodile Dundee star Mark Blum dies aged 69 from Covid-19

You and Crocodile Dundee actor Mark Blum died from Covid-19 this week.

Confirming the sad news, New York theatre company Playwrights Horizons shared a statement, which read: “With love and heavy hearts, Playwrights Horizons pays tribute to Mark Blum, a dear longtime friend and a consummate artist who passed this week.

“Thank you, Mark, for all you brought to our theater, and to theaters and audiences across the world. We will miss you.”

Mark Blum has tragically passed away at the age of 69.

Blum played the role of Mr Mooney in the hugely popular Netflix series, You.

He also had a number of other acting credits under his belt, including TV shows Almost Family, The Good Fight and Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle.

But undoubtedly Mark’s most iconic role was when he starred in 1986’s Crocodile Dundee.

Mark’s breakout role was when he appeared in 1983 film Lovesick, seeing him transition from stage to screen.

Tributes have poured in for the star on social media.

Broadway World tweeted: “We are saddened to report that veteran stage and screen actor Mark Blum has passed away.”

New York magazine writer Mark Harris wrote: “Mark Blum was a wonderful, stalwart actor – a familiar face to anyone who watches TV, and a mainstay, for decades, of dozens of New York stage productions. May he rest in peace.”

While playwright Jack Canfora wrote: “Found out a terrific actor and man whom I was lucky enough to be in one of my plays died this morning of #coronavirus.

“He wasn’t elderly. He was one of the most respected actors in New York: a beacon of fierce intelligence, dry wit & deep kindness on stage and off. A tragic loss.”

Mark is survived by his spouse, 65-year-old Janet Zarish.
