AceShowbiz – “The Walking Dead” star Danai Gurira was dreading her last ever day on the set of the series but was thrilled with the send off her co-stars planned.
The actress, who played Michonne for eight seasons on the show, filmed her final episode in July (2019) and recalled the difficult time after her remaining scenes aired on Sunday, March 22.
“It was very, very, very emotional,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “It was a lot of love. I received so much love, I was really blown back by how much love I received from everybody.”
And while the shoot proved challenging to face, the 42-year-old notes the big show of support really helped her get through it.
“You’re dreading that last day, that last minute, that last frame, you’re dreading it,” Gurira added. “That’s it. And at the same time, there’s so much beauty and love around it that you’re able to just be in the moment with it. So it was great. It was beautiful. It was like leaving home. There’s nothing quite like it.”
Danai previously revealed she was given her own special wrap party on the difficult day.
“They did a lot of really cool things for me, which I didn’t expect,” she revealed to EW in February. “Norman (Reedus) organised this big fireworks display, which was really beautiful, and there was this really cool cake that was basically Michonne’s sword….”.
