A Place in the Sun presenter Jasmine Harman certainly brings a lot of sunshine into people’s lives when she shows them around properties on the hit Channel 4 property series.
Off camera, she is also helping others by raising awareness of a rare disease that she herself has and champions body positivity.
Born on November 15 1975 in Hackney, London, the 46-year old has presented A Place in the Sun since 2004, alongside Jonnie Irwin.
It wasn’t just fame that Jasmine found on A Place in the Sun though, she also found ‘the one’ when she fell in love with a camera man working on the show.
She told The Mirror that her relationship with cameraman Jon Boast blossomed after a night out: “We went out dancing one night that weekend and I like a man who’s not afraid to make a fool of himself on a dance floor.
“He was just so much fun and I guess I fell in love.”
The couple got married in 2009 and have since had two children together, Albion and Joy.
However, following the birth of her daughter, Jasmine was diagnosed with a rare condition called Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), where there is a lower than an average number of platelets in a person’s blood.
This can cause symptoms such as bleeding gums and internal bleeding, and Jasmine was diagnosed after unexplained bruising appeared on her legs.
While filming an episode of A Place in the Sun, Jasmine was moved to tears when she discovered that the house hunters she was helping also shared a connection to the disease, as one of the prospective buyer’s sisters had recently died from ITP.
Jasmine shared an emotional post on Instagram about the moment, saying: “They say you meet people for a reason and I feel like I’ve met this week’s house hunters not only to help them find their place in the sun but also to generate some awareness for ITP.”
The episode was later dedicated to the house hunter’s sister, who had died of a bleed on the brain, and both the show and Jasmine’s instagram post helped to raise awareness of the rare disease.
Jasmine is also a champion of body positivity and is candid about her own weight loss journey, sharing photos of herself on social media to highlight ‘real bodies’, with one captioned: “Not everyone on IG has the perfect bod or the perfect life.”
She has drawn praise from fans in her Instagram posts, such as one featuring Jasmine wearing a purple crop top and leggings.
In the post the star said: “I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching about sharing my progress photos and a few people have encouraged me to practice what I preach about body positivity, not feeling like you have to hide, whatever your body size or shape.”
Most recently, the star has wowed fans with her weight loss transformation in before and after snaps shared on social media, after previously sharing photos of her weight gain during lockdown.
She said in one post: “It’s actually very refreshing not to be obsessing over the number on the scales, but I did bring my measuring tape and I can still take photos for comparison. (Can you see the difference?!)”
The presenter said she had been focusing on more ‘mindful eating’ and fans said that they could see a difference in her appearance, with one commenting: “You look great.”
A second fan said: “I can really see a difference in the photos, well done.”
