Actress Carmen Salinas dies aged 82 after being rushed to hospital from a stroke

Mexican actress Carmen Salinas has died aged 82 after suffering a stroke, her family have revealed.

The actress had been rushed to hospital in Mexico City and passed away on Thursday (December 9) – and her loved ones announced her passing in a statement.

Carmen’s career spanned over six decades, and she appeared in a number of Mexican films and television shows.

The 82-year-old actress had remained in a medically induced coma before she died – and she was also hopitalised in November after having a stroke.

On Thursday, Carmen’s nephew Gustavo Briones revealed she was being treated in intensive care.

Her daughter, Maria Eugenia Plascencia, informed local media outside of the hospital that her mother had been able to move her feet, and that she talked to her.

Carmen starred in many films as she built her profile in Mexico, including Las Cariñosas and La Pulqueria, having started off her career in comedic soaps.

One of her most famous characters came when she bagged the role of La Corcholata in Bellas de Noche.

Salinas was born in 1939 in the state of Coahuila, a northern Mexico state just next to America.

She took an alternative career path in 2015 when she entered Mexican politics – and she worked for the Institutional Revolutionary party.

Salinas was elected to a seat in the country’s Congress whilst representing the political party.
