Adil Ray called guest Bushra Shaikh “totally irresponsible” during a debate in the Good Morning Britain studio on Monday, as tensions raised.
Bushra, who appeared in the 2017 series of The Apprentice, came on the show to discuss travelling to Amber-list countries in the coming months.
The reality star claimed she wasn’t going to quarantine when she returned to the UK after her jaunt abroad, going against government advice to the contrary.
An NHS palliative care doctor, Rachel Clarke, also appeared in the segment, pointed out Bushra’s plan was dangerous as she could potentially spread Covid upon her return.
Adil agreed with the doctor, and turned to Bushra to say: “Your selfishness could cause people to die.”
Bushra scoffed at Adil’s remark, and insisted: “Oh give over, it’s not selfishness.”
“Things are looking up, it’s looking better. If you go on holiday to one of these countries just be responsible. We’ve got to start treating the…” Bushra went on, only for Adil to interrupt her.
“But hang on Bushra, you’re saying ‘be responsible,’ you’re being totally irresponsible,” he hit back, highlighting the death toll of the pandemic and the dangers Covid continues to pose.
“You’re saying we can go to a country with high rates of the infection and come back and do as you choose. There could be nothing more irresponsible than that. You’ve heard from a doctor. She’s a doctor, you’re not a professional doctor and neither am I.
“All we have to do is stay at home for 10 days when we come back from having a glorious holiday in the sunshine. There couldn’t be anything more responsible.”
“The thing is we’ve been told that for two years,” Bushra said, trying to defend her point of view.
“I’m speaking for the people that understand that actually, our families need to get away. It has been a long time and we are in a better position.”
Meanwhile, over on Twitter, viewers weren’t impressed by Bushra’s comments, with many insisting it would be “selfish” to refuse to quarantine.
One fan penned: “It’s not balance. I’m with the doctor, save the #NHS.”
