Alastair Campbell apologises after realising he kept getting guest's name wrong

Alastair Campbell issued an apology after he made an embarrassing mess up during one his first Good Morning Britain interviews.

The 63-year-old, had to say sorry to viewers on his debut after he’d mistakenly called Christine Brett, “Caroline” during a discussion about hugging amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

He joked: “I do need glasses I’m afraid, think I called Christine, Caroline at one point.”

As Alastair addressed the on-air blunder, Susanna laughed along at his quip about spectacles.

Susanna seemed particularly smiley as Alastair addressed the on-air blunder, laughing along at his quip about spectacles.

Christine, who is the Co-founder of US for Them, politely ignored the blunder and continued to air her views without calling out Alastair’s mistake.

Alastair sniggered that he “needed new glasses” after making a red faced name error

The charity co-founder joined the programme discussing hugging as May 17 approaches when UK Covid-19 restrictions ease-off, giving people the freedom to embrace their loved ones once again.

Christine believed that hugging needed to be ‘put into perspective’ as she spoke about the success of the vaccination programme.

Earlier on in the show, Alastair and Susanna hadn’t seen eye-to-eye when discussing how to address the Prime Minister.

Tony Blair’s former strategist turned to his co-star asking: “Can we please call the Prime Minister Mr Johnson?”

Shocked Susanna, who had been corrected by Alastair on his debut fired back without hesitation.

She demanded to know if Alastair referred to Sir Kier Starmer in the same manner.

Holding his ground, Alastair stumbled explained everybody should use the last name reference, pointing out that the tabloids often did the same thing.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
