Alec Baldwin has been seen for the first time since the fatal accident which took the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured the director Joel Souza, as he broke down outside the sheriff’s office.
The 63-year-old was utterly distressed as he walked outside of the police station in New Mexico just hours after the actor’s prop gun misfired and took the life of the 42-year-old.
Dressed in a navy-blue Tee shirt, the dad-of-seven was seen hunched over by the side of the road as he came to terms with the tragic news as filming came to a holt on the set of Rust.
Later on, the Beetlejuice actor was spotted anxiously calling someone to explain the horrific accident as he held his face mask out by the desert.
It comes after an aerial view of the set was shot just moments after the fatal accident took place which saw numerous police cars and medical professionals rush to the scene to help the injured crew members.
Director Joel Souza, 48, was taken by ambulance to Bonza Creek Ranch while his colleague Halyna was taken by helicopter but died from her injuries on her journey to the hospital.
A crew member has since informed the public that Joel has left hospital “hours ago” and will continue to recover from his injuries at home while filming is suspended.
In a statement to AFP news agency, a Santa Fe sheriff spokesman said Alec had spoken to detectives following the incident and that no charges have been made as of yet.
The spokesman said: “He came in voluntarily and he left the building after he finished with his interviews.”
The Hollywood star is a co-producer for the blockbuster film and plays the role of an outlaw whose 13-year-old grandson is convicted of accidental manslaughter.
Since the news spread of the death of the mother-of-one, tributes have been flooding in from fans online who are mourning the loss of the award-winning cinematographer.
The Suicide Squad director James Gunn said: “My greatest fear is that someone will be fatally hurt on one of my sets. I pray this will never happen.
“My heart goes out to all of those affected by the tragedy today on Ruse, especially Halyna Hutchins and her family.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson wrote on her final Instagram post: “I am so so sorry. Rest easy. My love and strength to your family.”
