Alesha Dixon opens up about how violent childhood shaped her as a mum

Alesha Dixon is committed to giving her own daughters the happiest possible childhood after the traumatic experience of witnessing her mother be beaten when she was a child.

The singer has been open about what it was like seeing her mother become victim to domestic violence at the hand of a boyfriend.

At the age of just eight years old, Alesha found herself witnessing the violent attacks – which she says has made her a better mum today as it ‘shaped’ who she is.

Speaking to Alice Liveing on the Give Me Strength podcast, she opened up about not wanting her children to go through what she did.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge said: “I want to make sure my children are never exposed to things that I saw. I want them to grow up feeling very secure, because I grew up feeling very insecure.”

Despite being a witness to such violence in her youth, Alesha went on to say that she didn’t have a bad childhood and that she had had “a lot of love” around her.
