Alex Beresford angry after Meghan says concerns held over Archie's skin colour

Alex Beresford expressed his shock after Meghan Markle revealed that members of The Royal Family had voiced concerns over the skin colour of her then-unborn child.

The Good Morning Britain star, 40, watched as The Duchess of Sussex spoke about her time as a senior member of the family.

Agreeing to a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, which was broadcast by CBS in the United States and will air on ITV this evening, Meghan didn’t hold back.

Speaking to the television icon, The Duchess of Sussex, 39, said there had been “several conversations” with members of the family about “how dark” their baby would have been.

After hearing the heartbreaking news, Alex took to his Twitter and penned: “The alleged worry over the darkness of Archie’s skin, alone would be enough for me to question whether I wanted to be part of a family like that.

“I do know I wouldn’t be able to talk to that individual again.”

During the interview, the weather presenter also penned: “Hmm now I know it’s just one side of the story (I bet we don’t get the other side) but jheeze this doesn’t sound like a welcoming progressive family?

“Some of what Meghan AND Harry are saying is predictable to me – gut feelings and life experience.”

While speaking to Winfrey, Meghan said: “In those months when I was pregnant, we had in tandem the conversations of him not being given security or a title, and also concerns about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

The couple refused to reveal the identity of those behind the concerns

However, she chose not to reveal the identity behind the alleged conversations as it would be “very damaging” to their public image.

Alex has previously spoken about his own experiences with racism, admitting that while Black history is some times covered in school classes, it is not always fairly represented.

“Part of the problem is that we don’t have enough black teachers in schools to teach British black history, you can’t teach what you don’t know,” he said on Good Morning Britain.

He added: “Being on the receiving end of racism scars you mentally, it’s a traumatic experience.

“I will never forget what was said and how it made me feel the first time I was called the N-word.”
