Alexandra Burke breaks down on Celeb SAS: Who Dares Wins as she sobs over late mum

Alexandra Burke broke down in tears while on a video call to her brother on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins as she said how proud her late mum would have been.

The 33-year-old pop star and X Factor winner lost her mum Melissa Bell four years ago after suffering a stroke.

During the episode, Alexandra spoke to her sibling David and started crying as she spoke about their mother.

He said: “You okay? Oh bless you sis, oh bless you. So proud of you sis, you have come so far.”

She tearfully replied: “If you’d seen what we have gone through, bro, if mum was here to see this. It just gets me so upset. I feel like mum would have been really proud.”

David replied “I know that for a fact, sis.”

Opening up about her time on the show, Alexandra continued: “It’s been one of the most amazing experiences I have ever gone through and to do it without mum there, I think has been the biggest challenge for me.”

She added: “She’s my little backbone. I just wish she was here.”

David assured his sister that their mum would “always be in our hearts”.

Later on the show, the Bad Boys singer said in a VT: “When mum left, I expected myself to be like: ‘Okay, mask on, let’s go’ but I didn’t have the strength to do that. And you know what, I’m just an emotional person.”

To mark four years since her mum passed away Alexandra got a tattoo of her mother’s handwriting, and said: “4 years today.. It doesn’t get any easier. I love you mummy… you are always with me. But now I can look down and see your handwriting on my wrist forever.”

Melissa was only 53 when she died and was the former lead singer of R&B band Soul II Soul.

At the time Alexandra, who won The X Factor in 2008, emotionally said: “It is with the heaviest and saddest of hearts that the family inform you our beautiful, funny and loving mum, Melissa Bell has passed away.

“Our beautiful mother gained her wings on Monday 28th August, a day that has changed out lives forever.

“We will never forget her unconditional love, support, charisma, strength and courage throughout her life.”
