This Morning’s soap expert Sharon Marshall has opened up about her traumatic experiences with miscarriage, and the ‘selfless’ offer from Alison Hammond to be a surrogate for her.
Sharon called Alison “the most beautiful soul” for making the incredible offer to carry a baby for her to make dreams of motherhood come true.
The star, 49, also recalled a day where a segment on the show about babies was just too much for her to handle.
She had to be comforted by Amanda Holden and Gok Wan as her emotions overwhelmed her.
In a chat with OK! magazine, Sharon described the moments leading up to the incident.
“There was one day, just after I’d had a miscarriage, and there was an item on the show about the most beautiful babies in Britain.
“I had a massive breakdown and confided in Amanda Holden and Gok Wan who were hosting that day.
“They were so lovely and Amanda told me to go and get counselling, which I did. I got the loveliest message from her when I got pregnant.”
Sharon is now mum to Betsey, two, but the journey wasn’t easy.
She suffered two miscarriages across seven rounds of IVF.
While pregnant with Betsey, she experience another bleed but medics were able to control it, leading to the birth of the little girl.
Sadly though, her previous miscarriage experiences meant she couldn’t really enjoy the pregnancy.
Sharon told The Sun: “Before she was born I was convinced something was going to go wrong.
“Until Betsey was actually put in my arms and I heard her let out the most almighty yell, I always felt like someone was going to say it’s all going to be taken away from me.
“I’d never allowed myself to go and buy something for the baby before I’d given birth.
“I wouldn’t even let myself look at the baby clothes in a shop. I was terrified to jinx it.”
