Alison Hammond has already made history by being shortlisted for Best Presenter at the National Television Awards.
Incredibly, it’s the first time a black man or woman has secured a nomination in the Best Presenter category in the awards’ history.
She’s up against some stiff-competition as also nominated are colleague Holly Willoughby, former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan and The Chase’s Bradley Walsh.
The biggest challenge of them all will be Ant and Dec, who are aiming to bag the award for the 20th time in a row.
But a win for Alison would be a momentous occasion, which she is aware of.
“I think if I did win it, I would win it for everyone of colour,” she says.
She aded that she felt change was already happening and hope her nomination would pave the way for more diversity.
Alison added: “I’ve definitely seen a shift this year, since 2020. It’s so lovely to see people who look like me working alongside me on the telly. It’s a nice feeling.”
Alison says her teenage son Aidan might be her date to the NTAs.
She said: “He said, ‘I can’t believe it mum, this is amazing’. He was just so, so happy. I said to him ‘listen, I’m not going to win the actual trophy because Ant and Dec always win it but it’s like I’ve won anyway just being in that category. It’s unbelievable’.”
Her usual date and “number one fan”, mum Maria, sadly passed away from cancer last year.
Alison says her mum would’ve been “over the moon” to learn that her daughter had been shortlisted.
Alison and Dermot O’Leary took over from Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on Fridays in January, with the new pairing helping propel This Morning to its best share of viewing figures in 14 years.
She first met Dermot as a contestant on the third series of Big Brother in 2002.
Despite only being in the house for two weeks, she caught the eye of This Morning bosses, who made her a roving reporter.
Since then she has become a firm show favourite among viewers.
The bubbly star has also competed in I’m a Celebrity in 2010 and Strictly Come Dancing in 2014.
Her down-to earth manner and way of not taking herself to seriously, makes her fun to watch for everyone.
“Maybe people see a little bit of themselves in me? I just tell it how it is, I don’t try to pretend to be perfect because I am genuinely not perfect. No one is. I always make mistakes and own them, and I have fun… I bring the LOLs and the vibes to TV,” she says.
