Amanda Owen has slammed the idea of “sexing up” her life for Our Yorkshire Farm, saying if she was to do that she’d “lose what it’s about”.
The Yorkshire Shepherdess is a popular figure on television – and much of that is because she and her family show the real hard work that goes on behind the scenes at their Ravenseat farm.
Now, in a new interview, the 47-year-old Channel 5 star has said that’s the only way they’d do things, especially as it seems to be working for viewers too.
On the latest series, the family were forced to self-film due to the Covid pandemic and some of them coming down with the virus.
Amanda said: “It is a family-run farm at the end of the day, so when it came to filming, it made absolute sense to hand over that control to the children.
“For us that is the real focal point, that is the bottom line, because the minute you start sort of sexing things up, then you’ve lost what it’s about.”
She added while speaking on the Boots and Heels podcast: “I’m not sitting here to slag off Countryfile or anything like that, it’s massively enormously popular, but I feel like our programme is watched by two distinct types of people – those who know and those who don’t.
“And if you can keep both those people watching a programme, then you’re doing something right.”
Amanda said that having to film the Channel 5 show themselves “was a challenge”, but she added that they looked at it as “an opportunity to showcase what you actually do”.
“In this day and age, there are a lot of people who can talk the talk,” she said, “but to actually be able to put it out on screen and show it to people at home kind of felt like we were validating what we’ve been talking about.”
This week, fans were left emotional as the current series came to an end.
They watched as Amanda and husband Clive were left on their own at the farm as all of their children, including youngest Nancy, headed off to school.
Viewers were left begging for the show to return, with one saying: “Last episode, gutted is an understatement! The most amazing family. I’m actually gonna miss watching them.”
Another said: “I do hope there’s another series.”
