America's Got Talent star Jay Jay Phillips dies aged 30 after Covid-19 battle

America’s Got Talent star Jay Jay Phillips has died aged 30.

The star has reportedly died after a short battle with Covid-19, family members have told TMZ.

It has been reported that he was battling the virus at home the week of Thanksgiving (November 25), and while family and friends were checking in with him over the phone, it is said he took a turn for the worse the day before the celebratory day.

The US publication stated that he was urged by family to visit the hospital, but he had told them he needed more sleep.

Jay Jay’s girlfriend and his mum went to check on him on Thanksgiving Day but found him dead.

The source told the publication that he was not vaccinated, but had been planning to get jabbed prior to falling ill.

His dad is also reportedly hospitalised and is currently on a ventilator.

Jay Jay, who was from Cleveland, Ohio, rose to fame as a keyboard rocker on America’s Got Talent in series four, before coming back years later in series 12 to give himself another shot.

Heidi Klum voted no, but Howie Mandel, Mel B and Simon Cowell all voted yes and sent him through to Judge Cuts.

Unfortunately, his performance wasn’t quite strong enough to get him through to the quarterfinals, which saw him eliminated from the competition.

For his day job, he previously worked at a fibreglass factory pushing buttons, but his true passion was the keyboard.

It was only last week that Jay Jay said that he’s been focusing on his band Mettal Maffia who he said was making “huge moves”, and he said he was “50 million more times excited about this than the whole AGT thing”.

He said he “loves this band so much it’s ridiculous”.

The star boasted 2,800 followers on his own Instagram and a similar amount on his band page.
