Anne Douglas, the widow of Kirk Douglas has died at the age of 102.
Anne died peacefully at her home in Beverly Hills, California, that she shared with her late actor husband of 66 years.
Her death comes just one year after husband Kirk passed away.
Michael Douglas has paid tribute to his stepmother in a statement saying she “will always be in our hearts”.
Paying tribute to Anne, stepson Michael said: “‘Anne was more than a stepmother, and never ‘wicked’.
“She brought out the best in all of us, especially our father. Dad would never have had the career he did without Anne’s support and partnership. Catherine and I and the children adored her; she will always be in our hearts.”
Born in Hannover, Germany, Douglas’ efforts to flee the Nazi-occupied country led her to France.
Her fluency in German, English, French and Italian led her to work with a French film distributor, thus paving the way for herself in the movie industry.
In addition to this, she wrote German subtitles for movies and produced an NBC programme called Paris Cavalcade of Fashion in 1948.
Douglas also worked in the entertainment industry as a location scout for John Huston.
She then went on to become a publicist at Cannes and eventually became the president of Kirk’s production company.
She met Kirk on the set of the Act of Love in 1953 and the pair fell madly in love.
He was starring in the film and she was doing the publicity for it.
The couple revealed in their 2017 book ‘Kirk and Anne: Letters of Love, Laughter, and a Lifetime in Hollywood’ that she made the first move romantically.
