Radio One DJ Annie Mac has featured tons of iconic guests on her radio shows over the years – but none quite compare to the surprise visit she had from her son live on air – who needed help wiping his bum.
The BBC radio legend, 42, was trying to speak to Joanne Good on BBC Radio London to promote her new book Mother Mother when her four-year-old son waltzed into the room, interrupting the live interview with one specific task for his mum Annie.
During the hilarious on-air moment, the son demanded Annie wipe his bum after selecting her over grandma and grandpa – who clearly didn’t make the cut.
As her interview was cut off, Annie said to Joanna: “Uh-oh, my kid’s just walked in” before the young son was heard in the background saying: “I need a poo-poo but I don’t want my grandma or grandpa to wipe my bum.”

BBC presenter Jo cracked up laughing at the surprise guest’s entry whilst Annie rushed to apologise, saying: “I’m the only person who can wipe his bum apparently.”
Radio One breakfast host Greg James posted the hilarious clip on his BBC Radio One show and praised Annie’s calm diffusing of the situation.
Joining in the fun on social media, Annie also posted the clip to Instagram and Twitter – explaining: “Live radio interview yesterday with Jo Good on @bbcradiolondon interrupted by my kid protesting that I wasn’t there to wipe his bum.

“I saw him walk down the garden towards me, I knew it was going to happen because everyday he comes home from school and does his ‘ablutions’ and I have to wipe him and today his grandparents were looking after him and he wasn’t having it.”
Annie isn’t the only broadcasting mum to fall victim to a family member gatecrashing their live interview – last year Deborah Haynes has her Sky News interview derailed by her young son who was after some biscuits.
And Dr Clare Wenham’s daughter stole the show during a live BBC News interview with Christian Fraser when she wanted to know the name of the news anchor quizzing her mum.

Annie is a mum of two sons aged seven and four with her husband of three years Toddla T – and she confirmed she is leaving Radio 1 to spend time with her family as well as focus on other projects.
In her heartwarming statement, Annie said: “I need more time to see my kids in the evenings now they are both in school. I would like more time to write fiction and to create podcasts. I also love the idea of leaving the party (and make no mistake, working at Radio 1 does feel like a party) with a huge smile on my face, when I’m still having the most fun I can have.”
Annie’s fellow Radio One star Clara Amfo will be taking over as the host of Future Sounds – and Annie’s final Future Sounds show will air on July 30.
Annie’s book, Mother Mother was released in May 2021.
