Antiques Roadshow guest amazed as Live Aid item he found in bin 'worth £1,000s'

An Antiques Roadshow guest was gobsmacked after hearing a Live Aid memorabilia he found in the bin was “priceless”.

The man told expert Jon Baddely he had worked backstage at the iconic 1985 charity concert when he came across the large clear plastic panel with the iconic logo emblazoned across it.

“What I remember of the day was actually looking for certain items that had been thrown out in my personal laundry,” he explained.

“Someone threw them out thinking they were rubbish and then at the refuse area, that’s where I found this.

“I didn’t find my laundry but I found this and that made up for it, slightly.”

A gobsmacked Jon asked: “So, you weren’t looking for this at all? You were trying to find your clean underpants?”

He went on to explain the valuable item was part of the stage set up and was used during the live broadcast when various stars came along to be interviewed.

Jon then made the all-important valuation – and it left the owner of the memorabilia stunned.

“It’s very rare, if you ever decided to sell it I would have thought at auction it would fetch between £8,000 and £12,000,” he explained.

The visibly shocked man could simply reply: “Incredible.”

Live Aid was one of the largest television broadcasts of all time – reaching an estimated audience of 1.9 billion people across 150 nations.

The event, organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in the UK and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia.

It is estimated around £150million was raised to help battle the Ethiopian famine.
