Antiques Roadshow guests often bring their ordinary-looking items to get valued in the hope they are worth thousands.
And for one opportune man, that is exactly what happened on last night’s episode (April 18).
He explained that his son-in-law found the carving of an eagle in a junk shop just outside York for just £76.
Expert Cristian Beadman revealed that it originated from the Swiss town of Brienz, which was “famed in the 19th and early 20th centuries for its carved linden wood animal models”.
Cristian said the “culture of carving” in the Alps exploded after 1816 after a famine hit the economy of Switzerland.

“The carving industry got together with the timber industry, and they started creating these fabulous things to sell as souvenirs,” he said.
The item brought to the show was “in almost perfect condition”, Cristian added.
“The naturalism of the feathers, the way the wind is lifting them,” he continued.
“It’s a beautiful colour, beautifully carved, pretty good condition.”
When he was told at the measly sum the guest’s son-in-law paid for it, he remarked: “I think it’s worth a little bit more than that.

The guest was unsurprisingly staggered by the valuation and simply replied: “Sweet, very sweet.”
It comes after another guest on the popular BBC show was left stunned when she found out the true value of a glass bottle her mum bought her for Christmas.
Meanwhile, an expert was unable to identify a mystery item brought in but still gave it a staggering valuation.
