An Antiques Roadshow guest was shocked to learn the value of his antique clock has tripled its price after 23 years.
The pensioner explained he paid a whopping £6,000 for the steel clock at an antiques fair in Olympia, London in 1998.
Showing on Sunday’s BBC programme, expert Judith Miller said the clock was a rare product designed between the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts period.
The man said he was drawn to the “classic” design of the clock, adding: “That would look nice on my sideboard.
“It’s actually been sitting on my sideboard for over 20 years and keeps good time.”
Judith then gave an insight to the clock and said: “Arthur Lazenby employed these great designers, producing for Liberty’s in London, and this was high fashion, and it would, in its day, have been very expensive.”
She pointed out the off-centre clock interface and the flying birds pattern on top as an indicator of the “unusual” design.
“If I was to put a valuation on it, I would be talking about £15,000 to £20,000,” Judith revealed.
Stunned by the incredible value, the man replied: “Goodness me! Oh, I’m very surprised, extremely surprised.
“I shall continue to enjoy it!”
Viewers were shocked at the valuation but some pointed out previous auctions of the same clock hammered at £10,000.
