Apprentice star Karren Brady has defended Meghan Markle, The Duchess Of Sussex over her ‘publicity stunt’ video that she uploaded to her website on her 40th birthday.
The Duchess of Sussex turned 40 and celebrated the milestone by uploading a celebratory video that also coincided with the launch of her new 40×40 initiative.
The new scheme, which promotes giving 40 minutes of time to mentor a woman returning to the workplace, was promoted in the video she released to mark the big milestone.
The video, which has received a lot of backlash, was filmed alongside Hollywood pal and star of Identity Thief Melissa McCarthy.
Karren Brady, who recently urged her two kids to get the lifesaving Covid-19 vaccination, has applauded Meghan for trying to help other others – amid accusations that the video was a ‘publicity stunt’.
In Karren’s column for The Sun, she wrote: “This is a great cause, because over two million women in the US and tens of millions around the world lost their jobs during the pandemic…
“Some are calling it a publicity stunt, but still, what a brilliant line-up of women she has queuing to help other women.
“Whatever you think of Meghan, this is such a positive way to mark turning 40 – by inviting women to help other women back into the workplace.
“We all need a mentor and a helping hand, and even those who say it is ‘woke’ and ‘publicity seeking’ surely have to acknowledge that this is a positive initiative.”
Meghan has involved an array of a-listers, Hollywood stars and celebrity chums in her scheme, with Adele, Amanda Gorman, Stella McCartney and Edward Enninful being among the famous helpers for the 40×40 initiative.
In the video that Melissa McCarthy starred in, a royal biographer accused Meghan and Melissa of “mocking the Queen”.
Angela Levin, the royal biographer and expert, took to twitter to share her disgust with her followers.
She said: “Anyone else think that Meghan and her friend Melissa McCartney were mocking the Queen in the birthday video?
“Both holding old fashioned cup and saucer like Meg used in her blog after 1st meeting with queen.
“Melissa sipping from the cup wearing fancy hat and gloves?”
“The mockery shows what she thinks of the Royal Family”, she added.
“She’s got what she wanted and is confident she can outsmart us all.”
