BBC Breakfast viewers switch off as they fume over football dominating headlines

Viewers were left rather unimpressed on Monday as the subject of football dominated the BBC Breakfast schedule.

While the idea of a new super European league is an important topic for sporting fans, many viewers were switched off.

Presenters Louise Minchin, Dan Walker and Sally Nugent discussed the latest announcement that Europe’s top football clubs have made plans to form a so-called European super league, in a move that may possibly rock the foundations of football history.

Presenter Sally Nugent interviewed several guests regarding the super league on Monday and making reference to singer Bonny Tyler, Sally expressed she “needs a hero” regarding the unexpected footie news.

Sally said: “This is getting really complicated, not proving very popular with the fans – the announcement has prompted a really strong reaction from the fans and governing bodies alike.”

Though the presenters gave several details on the topic, viewers complained about repetition and how boring it was all becoming.

Taking to Twitter, viewers confidently aired their disappointment.

One Tweeter said: “Apparently there is absolutely no news today outside of football. None at all.”

While another wrote: “Why are you giving so much priority to an inconsequential issue. There are many things going on that are far more important than the immoral greed of football. It is no longer a sport, just an asset to be traded.”

A third disappointed viewer said: “Are you joking? News headlines are about football. Is the editor a football fan or something?”

“WTF has this got to do with the government? it’s a f*****g game,” another penned.

BBC Breakfast viewers are often very dogmatic when it comes to certain headlines that are discussed on the show and take to Twitter in their droves if they are faced with news that they deem to be irrelevant.

As well as the constant football chat, viewers were left uninspired by the heavy discussion of BBC’s crime thriller Line of Duty.

One tweeter said: “Seriously, stop banging on about Line of Duty. I don’t want to do homework to watch the news.”
