BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker accidentally shares Strictly Come Dancing start date on air

BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker has accidentally revealed when Strictly Come Dancing will return to our screens.

The popular dancing contest has a closely-guarded schedule, making Dan’s slip-up all the more amusing.

While appearing on the BBC One morning show on Wednesday, he made the exciting announcement after his colleague Louise Minchin confessed when she would be stepping down from the news programme.

The 44-year-old journalist whipped his mobile phone out and proceeded to go through his personal calendar, all whilst appearing on live tv.

Dan went on to say: “I was just going to put your date in the diary.”

He continued: “I meet and greet the partner in a couple of days time.

“And actually the first show is on the 18th and then the live shows start on the 25th.”

Louise replied: “Perfect, I leave on the 15th, you leave on the 18th.”

Naturally, Strictly fans were quick to comment on the broadcaster’s funny tv moment as one tweeted: “Good luck Dan… Dan Walker soon to be Dan dancer!”

After a month off the grid, it was finally revealed last month that Dan Walker would compete on Strictly

The former Football Focus presenter’s participation in the nineteenth series of Strictly was announced on August, 10, 2021.

The dad-of-three joins a highly anticipated line-up including Olympic Gold Medal-winning swimmer Adam Peaty, Loose Women’s Judi Love and former Harlequins player Ugo Monye.

Fans will be pleased to learn – in addition to its airing date – that this year’s series will bring the beloved themed weeks back.

These include movie week, musicals week and Halloween week, which had all had to be cancelled last year due to difficulties with hair and make-up under full PPE and Covid restrictions.

Moreover, the long-awaited new season of the dance competition will welcome four new professional dancers joining the line-up.

They will be replacing Anton and Janette Manrara, who are now hosting BBC Two’s Strictly spin-off, It Takes Two.

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am
