BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker screams in horror as he tries new ice challenge

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker screamed in horror as he took part in the ice foot challenge – and viewers couldn’t stop laughing.

The presenter joined former footballer Len Johnrose, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2017, to raise awareness for the disease by participating in the #IceFoot92 challenge.

The aim is to dip your feet into icy water for 92 seconds while also nominating three more people to take part and making a donation via text message.

In a segment on Wednesday’s programme (April 7), Dan braves the cold weather and joins the challenge outside the BBC studio in Salford Quay in Manchester.

He takes a big breath while removing his shoes and socks, apologising: “Sorry for getting my feet out live at the TV, don’t look directly at them, you will get snow blindness.”

As the time starts, Dan places his feet in the ice-filled bucket and the cold immediately kicks in.

“Oh my God! Haha,” he says while holding up his fist and biting onto it. “It’s cold. I’m just going to have to talk the whole time.

“You told me earlier…Yowzers! I’m struggling to talk.”

In a desperate attempt to withstand the cold he keeps hitting his lap.

Guest Dean, who has already done the challenge, explains to Dan that the first 10 to 20 seconds are the hardest.

“But as the feet go numb, it’s best to have someone to kick the bucket a bit and you will feel better,” he advises.

Dan, clearly struggling to keep his feet under the ice, is seen standing up and moving around on the chair.

While asking Dean for the time, the 44-year-old lets out a loud scream.

Dean adds: “I will count you down for the last 10 seconds. I can see your feet shaking.”

At the end of the challenge, Dan says: “It’s a lot colder than I thought it would be! Louise, you are up next!”

Viewers were left in stitches and took to Twitter to comment on Dan’s performance.

One said: “Well done Dan, hilarious ice foot challenge.”

“Funniest thing was the squeal from @mrdanwalker doing his ice foot challenge in support of Motor Neurone Disease!” A second added.

“I’m not sure I have ever seen you lost for words Dan,” a third penned. “Raising money for such a great cause.”

A fourth wrote: “Brilliant, the noises that came out of you, I’m still wiping away the laughter tears and for such a great cause too, just brilliant.”
