Shadow Transport Secretary Jim McMahon appeared on Friday morning’s BBC Breakfast to give his take on the travel situation in the UK from a Labour perspective.
While being interviewed by presenter Naga Munchetty things became rather awkward when Naga cut him off while he was speaking to ask whether he actually understood her questions.
Talking about the current green list and the countries that are placed on there, Naga wanted to find out what the criteria is to be on that particular list.
However, McMahon started to discuss the procedures needed when travelling abroad.
Not satisfied with his response, broadcaster Naga cut him off and said: “Oh no, I’m so sorry, I think I’m either not being clear or you don’t understand what I’m saying. I’m not talking about the procedures.
“If the Labour government was in charge and you said Malta should be on the green list, it is because X the rate of infection is…”
Viewers at home also picked up on the abrupt interruption and took to Twitter to air their thoughts on the interview overall.
One viewer penned: “Shadow Transport Secretary just had a car crash of an interview on BBC Breakfast.”
Another said: “Shadow Transport Secretary on #bbcbreakfast basically clueless.”
While a third chimed: “Hopefully the shadow transport secretary will watch his cringeworthy interview on bbc catch up. What defines a green country? Simple! But what if a green country doesn’t want us flooding their country?”
“Labour shadow transport secretary, on this morning his answers where as clear has MUD,” a fourth penned.
However, one viewer believed Naga was confusing herself throughout the interview and shared this opinion too on Twitter.
One viewers said: “I had literally the opposite opinion! I actually thought he was very good and Naga was getting confused with her unclear questions. The questions weren’t much better. Naga was even confusing herself!”
BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
