BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt absent in show shake-up

The BBC Breakfast team have been undergoing various changes this week and Sunday morning was no exception.

Regular presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were both missing from the red sofa on Sunday and were replaced by journalists Chris Mason and Luxmy Gopal.

During the weekends, Charlie and Naga usually take the reigns, while Dan Walker and Louise Minchin present the morning programme throughout the week.

The noticeable changes that have been taking place this week have left some viewers somewhat confused too.

But on Sunday, some breakfast fans felt the new presenters were a breath of fresh air.

Taking to Twitter, viewers aired their opinions on Chris and Luxmy.

One viewer questioned: “Just seen the very professional and very beautiful @luxmy_g on BBC breakfast. Why is the lovely lady not a regular presenter on the programme?”

Another said: “What a breath of fresh air, @ChrisMasonBBC @luxmy_g. Enjoying the programme. Thank you.”

While a third fan agreed that the presenters were a great addition to the show too and said: “Good morning Chris. Winning team in the studio this morning hopefully another this evening at Wembley.”

“She can only improve the quality of presenting on @BBCBreakfast Luxmy is a step up in class,” a fourth tweeted.

But although most were impressed, others felt they were a bit too jolly for the early morning programme.

Referring to Luxmy, one viewer penned: “Christ the presenter on BBC breakfast is slightly sickly, what’s she on, over the top happy juice !?”

“BBC have the uncanny knack of discovering new presenters who are just as irritating as the others,” another chimed.

On Saturday, regular presenter Charlie was replaced by Jon Kay and presented the show alongside regular host Naga.

Just like on Saturday’s show, the BBC never mentioned where their original presenters were on Sunday either.

But as the old saying goes, the show must go on.

Taking the reigns on Saturday’s instalment of the morning programme, Jon, 51, chirpily introduced the show and said: “Hello there. Good morning, welcome to Breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Jon Kay.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
